I'm about to start filming my web series and I was wondering if it made a difference if one cinematographer has a Canon 5D Mark 3 and the second cinematographer has a HD miniDV camcorder?

Permalink Reply by Aaron Garcia on June 28, 2012 at 8:11am I agree. Unless that's part of the style you might find it difficult in matching shots for scenes. It might be too much of a difference. I would suggest shooting a test and seeing how it looks before you commit.
Permalink Reply by Sebastian White on June 28, 2012 at 11:10am Thanks. I'm missing because one cinematographer can't commit to all the shoot dates so I needed a second cinematographer so maybe this will work...its a web series that follows seven people some who live together and some who don't so would it look good if certain scenes were shot with one camera and other scenes were shot with the different camera? So for instance, Sebastian's scenes are on camera 1 and Bobby's scenes are on camera 2?
Permalink Reply by Rich Mbariket on June 28, 2012 at 11:54am I would recommend following aaron's advice... test and see before you commit. You should do test shoots always anyway. This is the pre-production aspect of the game. You noobies should attend these web series workshops I'm organizing.
Permalink Reply by Sebastian White on June 28, 2012 at 12:01pm I will. I'll do a test shoot then. And when is the next workshop or where are the previous workshop vids (if any)?
Permalink Reply by Rich Mbariket on June 28, 2012 at 12:08pm I have one coming up this weekend in LA. See link on homepage. After this class I'll revamp the course because people are saying 5 hours is too long and they can't make it in person, but I've already committed to it. Future classes will be much shorter and online.
Permalink Reply by Aaron Garcia on June 28, 2012 at 12:37pm Go on youtube or vimeo. People post up tests shots of cameras. Know the brand of the HD miniDV camcorder and see tests on that. It may give you a better idea of how each camera records and if its similar. But the best test would be you shooting with both cameras and seeing for yourself. I did that with my series to decide what I wanted to go with.

Permalink Reply by Elisar Cabrera on June 30, 2012 at 11:56am Go buy one of the cheaper Canons like 550D then when you shoot rent the actual lenses that you will use with both 5D and the 550D and you should be able to create a better match.
Permalink Reply by Sebastian White on July 4, 2012 at 10:12am Would this work as well as a 550D? http://www.amazon.com/Canon-T1i-Digital-18-55mm-3-5-5-6/dp/B001XURPQS

This was shot on Canon 550D
Rich, finding this colour scheme (grey and white) very hard to read.
