Since TV networks are now making a web series to support existing shows, it makes sense for The Emmys to have a separate web series category. On Sunday, September 23, 2012, The 64th Primetime Emmy Awards will again consolidate nominated shows, including as Showtime's Web Therapy (which started as a web series), NBC's 30 Rock: Webisodes (exclusively online) and Adult Swim's Children's Hospital (which started as a web series) under the specialty category called 'Outstanding Special Class Programs.'
Whether indie, studio, network, or advertiser-produced, the fact is more and more broadcast-quality web series are published online everyday, and more is coming. Having a separate category to recognize them seems like a no-brainer so what's the hold up?
