'The Avengers' Director Joss Wheadon Says His 'Dr. Horrible' Web Series Coming To TV 2013

'The Avengers' director Joss Whedon announced at Comic-Con 2012 that his 'Dr. Horrible' web series starring Felicia Day, Neil Patrick Harris and Castle's Nathan Fillion is coming to the CW network next year.

He didn't announce the release date or whether the series will be reformatted for TV or if new episodes will be shot. 'Dr. Horrible' aired online to much fanfare in 2008, and went live on stage in Las Vegas last year, as reported by WSN.

Chad: the man seems pro-web to me from his interviews and panels. Not unless there's another joss whedon out there. :)

@Rich The problem is Whedon has made no bones about his not being a big fan of web content and even admitted that he really didn't want to put Dr. Horrible on the web in the first place. He did it as a vanity project that was a big middle finger to Fox during the writers strike.

@Chad: This project has a cult following online. Uprooting something that the Web built and taking it to "TV" escapes me. If I were Whedon, I'd remake it for the web and present it to advertisers, but the catch is they'll have to sponsor multiple seasons instead of just one. That's how you build web shows long term... get sponsors to commit to multiple seasons!

This is probably a development deal that will be shelved by Christmas. There have been WAY too many false starts to think anything new from this project will ever see the light of day.

I love Whedon. I know he likes doing movies, but he really is at his best when working on series. I don't care if it's tv or web, I just want more Whedon shows.
