With a production budget of $2.5 million, the media blitz, a Hollywood star, the fourth most visited site in the world, Electric City, the adult-themed animated web series produced by and starring Tom Hanks failed to live up to the hype.
The series, which debuted in July on Yahoo isn't being watch, isn't being talked about, and is pretty much forgotten... and Yahoo is still sitting on more episodes waiting to hit the web.
One thing about hype is when you don't live up to it you go away fast!
Aspiring and veteran web series makers, there's something to be learned here: Having a celebrity attached, million dollar budget, and sites like Yahoo behind a project might attract publicity and hype, but not necessarily an audience.
Something to think about!

Comment by AfterTheBeast on August 7, 2012 at 2:43pm It's interesting that they haven't figured out the key to the internet...interaction. You have to have some sort of interaction with your audience. That's how online entertainment / social media / blogs / etc... work.

Comment by Rich Mbariket on August 4, 2012 at 12:39pm They could if they took the time to learn about the online entertainment medium. There's more to it than a bankable name and publicity.
Comment by Chad Media on August 4, 2012 at 11:38am Hollywood and the web just don't mix.
