Web Series Advice Column: Wise Ways To Grow and Keep Your Support Base

Building a support base is hard, keeping it is even harder. Here are wise ways to grow and keep your support base by Rich Mbariket.

1. Show appreciation: Once in a while send a SPECIAL THANK you message to thank your support base for their support. Believe it or not, I don't see this happening a lot in web series.

2) Support other web series: You would be surprised to know that many web series creators don't support other web series, but they want you to support theirs. There are many ways you can support other web series, including actually watching them, re-tweeting, commenting, etc.

3) Keep active with your support base: Activity is crucial. Provide fresh and consistent content such as videos, photos, blog posts, etc. Lying dormant is one of the fastest ways to lose your support base.

4) Make quality product: Treat your web series as a product because quality product always finds its way to the right people.

5) Remember my three rules: Quality of product, presentation, and personality.

@Cheesemint -- Nothing excites me more than seeing web series creators supporting one another. Glad to see you getting the support you deserve.

"Well there are many TV properties online, so one could appropriately call those web TV since they do extend traditional TV brands."

You're absolutely right. Streaming existing TV shows online is Web TV. But what's with the Web TV label on original direct-to-Internet shows? I don't get it.

This is really good advice - one thing we have discovered, especially since joining the WSN, is that there is definitely a sense of community with many of the web series creators - a little like the old independent comic production scene of the early 90's.  There have been many other web series creators who have been showing the support for our series, and we've been spreading the word of other series too.  It's just nice to be part of a web series creating family!

Well there are many TV properties online, so one could appropriately call those web TV since they do extend traditional TV brands.  But, as stand alone entertainment the TV label makes little sense and just leads to things like geoblocking being applied to the World Wide Web, which knows no such boundaries....... other than the likes of China that actively censors content.

Don't get the whole 'web TV' thing either. To me, Web Entertainment is appropriate term... not Web TV. But that's just me!

....and just remember, it is not TV, it is the World Wide Web.
